You've seen it, or been perhaps even forced to enable it. "Require 2FA for moderator actions". Turning this on will require members with elevated permissions to have multi-factor authentication enabled to perfoem certain actions. What is considered a "moderator action" you ask? Here's the list of permissions that require 2FA:
- Administrator
- Manage Server
- Manage Channels
- Manage Roles
- Manage Threads and Posts
- Manage Messages
- Kick, Approve and Reject Members
- Timeout Members
- Ban Members
⚠️ Take note:
- This requirement applies to native actions only (using Discord's built-in menus and buttons), they may still be executed using bot commands without having 2FA enabled (Not all bots may enforce this requirement)
- Mute, deafen and move member (for voice channels) does not require 2FA.
- If your users report seeing the "2FA Required" prompt on your server, you have misconfigured permissions. Thoroughly check all your roles, including channel overrides!
⭐️ Good to know:
Users gain access to the Members tab when they have at least one of the following permissions listed below (regardless if the 2FA requirement is met). They can interact with the entire thing (see invite used, account flags, etc), but will only be allowed to perform actions that they actually have permissions for.
- Administrator
- Manage Server
- Manage Roles
- Manage Nicknames
- Kick, Approve and Reject Members
- Timeout Members
- Ban Members
