The various caps/limits on Discord

Account caps

• You can join up to 100 servers. With an active Nitro subscription, this limit is increased to 200.
  • If you're in over 100 servers and cancel your subscription, you will need to leave any surplus before you're allowed to join more.
• Your message can contain up to 2,000 characters. With an active Nitro subscription, this limit is increased to 4,000.
  • How many characters an emoji or user/channel mention takes up is determined by its name and ID.
  • For embed descriptions, the character limit is 4,096 instead.
• You can have up to 1,000 friends.
  • This cap is not affected by pending requests nor limits the ability to receive them.
• You can have up to 5,000 blocked users.
• You can have up to 1,500 user notes.
• You can have up to 500 characters per user note.
• You can have up to 100 DMs in your sidebar.

Server caps

• You can have up to 25,000,000 members in a server.
  • To grow past 25 million members, you must request a cap increase via support.
• You can have up to 500 channels (including categories)
• You can have up to 1,000 active threads (including forum posts).
  • Acrhived threads do not count towards your cap.
  • Forum posts are considered threads.
• You can have up to 50 categories.
• You can have up to 50 channels per category.
• You can have up to 250 roles.
• You can have up to 999 unique invites.
• You can have up to 50 integrations.
• You can publish up to 10 announcements per house (including edits).
• You can follow up to 10 announcement channels per channel.
• The offline members list is hidden after surpassing 1,000 members.
  • The offline members list is restored once the server falls below 800 members.
• The offline members list is hidden after surpassing 500,000 members.
  • Past this point, only hoisted roles will be displayed on the server.
  • Roles with more than 100,000 members cannot be hoisted.

Miscellaneous caps

• A thread can have up to 1,000 active participants.
• A role can not be mentioned in a thread if it has more than 100 members.
• The length of a file name can be up to 100 characters.
• The length of a file name, including the extension, can be up to 1,024 characters.
• The maximum amount of pages returned in search is 400 (10,000 messages).
• Onboarding answers are turned into dropdowns at 13 and more options.
• A vanity invite can be up to 25 characters long.
• Audit log entries are saved for 45 days.
• Up to 5 links can embed per message (in order of appearance)
